Breakfast

It's been a few days since a small accident, and his partner hasn't come out of their room.
To Laurel, it was not an inconvenience. Hitting your head in a restaurant and having people immediately crowding you to try and help must have been overwhelming for them.
But in the rabbit's eyes, there was this belief that they were burdening everyone else, even if it was an accident. Especially because it was an accident.
Laurel knocks on the door, and tries to talk them into coming out.
Laurel Pedigree Canine
My friend.
Laurel Pedigree Canine
I'm going to make breakfast. Is there anything you'd like?
No response.
On the other end, the nameless rabbit curled up by the door. Laurel knows by now not to knock on it, because they're resting their head on the surface.
They're hungry. But if they ask for anything specific, it might put pressure on him. So they thought.
Guy Reserved Rabbit
.....
The rabbit has been hungry for days.
Laurel Pedigree Canine
You need to eat too, you know.
And he's right. They do.
Laurel Pedigree Canine
Do you need options?
Laurel Pedigree Canine
There's still some soup from a week ago.
Guy Reserved Rabbit
....Okay.
"I'll take it." They basically say, and Laurel understands immediately. So, he goes into the kitchen of the apartment and gets to work.
Laurel always needed something to do. The nature of a canine meant growing bored easily. Unlike many other canines, Laurel had extreme patience. Everyone needs a bit of it to live.
He heats up some water, and from the fridge he takes out the soup packets. Powdered, instant congee. Not the best quality but it'll have to do.
The smell of it is enough to get the rabbit to come out. They slowly get up and open the door, peeking. Though Laurel hears, he doesn't move immediately. Patience.
Laurel Pedigree Canine
...Welcome.
They open the door a little more, and with quiet steps, they move to the kitchen. Sitting down, the rabbit waits patiently. Laurel does not look back yet.
The look on their face was haggard, like they haven't slept in a good bit.
He doesn't mind.
Laurel Pedigree Canine
It's congee. I don't know what kind.
Guy Reserved Rabbit
I...do like congee...
"Good." He thinks, preparing to transfer to a large bowl. Though, before he can bring everything over to the table...
The rabbit hugs him as he turns around.
Quiet sniffling can be heard only by their partner as Laurel very nearly spills a bit onto his partner.
Guy Reserved Rabbit
I'm sorry.
Laurel Pedigree Canine
Hey, now.
Immediately he places the bowl to the side, and wraps his arms around them.
Guy Reserved Rabbit
I just...
Guy Reserved Rabbit
...don't know. I didn't mean to slip.
Laurel Pedigree Canine
No one ever falls casually.
Laurel Pedigree Canine
Accidents happen. It wasn't your fault.
They want to believe it. So, so bad. All those people wanted to help, but they were so scared they had made the situation worse with their own blood.
Laurel strokes their hair, trying to bring comfort. He tells himself a lot that he's not good at it.
Guy Reserved Rabbit
Do you still love me?
Laurel Pedigree Canine
Yes.
Laurel Pedigree Canine
Nothing will change that.
Guy Reserved Rabbit
....Even if I'm a danger to everyone?
Laurel Pedigree Canine
In spite of that, yes.
Laurel Pedigree Canine
I'll love you until there's no trace of me left.
If only he could be here forever.
They can't help but choke out a sob, before letting go. Laurel holds their face, wiping the tears.
Guy Reserved Rabbit
...Thank you.
Laurel Pedigree Canine
Go eat. I'll keep watch.
So they listen to him, and take a seat to eat up. Their partner sits on the other end of the table, hand intertwined with theirs. They don't let go.
The breakfast was mediocre quality soup. But it was made with love, and that made it better than anything they could possibly make.
Laurel only hopes he can spend what little time he has left with them.
He'll beg the Sun for more time no matter what it takes.
